The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown have put the limelight back on India’s excessive dependence on China, affecting the supply chain to a large extent. This drawback has come as a major blow to several industries, including Construction Equipment. To reduce this supply chain reliance and survive, it is imperative to become self-sufficient. Mission ‘Atmanirbhar’ launched by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, during the course of the pandemic, which was reiterated further by the Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, through various schemes lays ample focus on the theme.
India is a large market with significant demand for products. Over the past few years, we have seen interest from across the globe in purchasing goods. These include products like Construction Equipment, Automobiles, electronic goods, pharmaceutical products, consumer products and home furnishing. There is a significant opportunity for India to become a part of the global supply chain. This would require more and more business-friendly policies and reforms, world-class infrastructure and availability of resources.
The manufacturing supply chain operates on a foundation built by land, natural resources, and fixed assets all of which have a high gestation period, entail high fixed costs and involve making decisions for the long run. This pandemic calls for a reset to the future of manufacturing and the B2B supply chain.

DEP’s application-specific unmanned aerial system (UAS) - Garuda, developed using Drone Technology is turning out to be game-changers across industries
With the increasing use of autonomous machinery in our day-to-day lives, the influence of drone technology across verticals is extraordinary. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) are turning out to be game changers in multiple sectors with special emphasis on defense, entertainment, agriculture, and ecommerce sectors. Their applications are known for real-time monitoring, wireless coverage provision, remote sensing, delivery of goods, photography, precision in agriculture and surveillance.
DEP’s product engineering team set out to develop an application specific unmanned aerial system (UAS). DEP’s approach consisted of designing the airframe, deterrence method, radio control & autopilot, camera, power, ground control, drive train, and pre-flight systems. For the airframe, Garuda incorporates the conventional twin propeller airplane layout rather than flying wing type, which was initially proposed. DEP also provides a comprehensive list of pre-flight system checks and failure management tips.

The gear-motor industry is expanding in developing countries, owing to rising industrialization and infrastructural development activities. Increasing wind power installations and the low cost and compact nature of the equipment are major factors driving the global gear-motor market. The gear, motor, and transmission segments that are moving towards mobility will stay stable for the foreseeable future.
Karthik Shankaran, our CIO points out that, “This will impact the associated industries as well, for instance, the tooling required for the connecting rods and piston. The volume of such tooling required will go down”.
