Smart Design solutions for New Age Manufacturing

October 30, 2019

In today’s highly competitive market, each company is trying to get their products to market, better than the previous version, and faster than their competitor. The mandate of fast to market would continue to be relevant not just for manufacturing, but also for design and engineering. This calls for transformation to product development process, from the traditional method, towards a more virtual process. The virtual product development process involves simulation driven engineering, and a model based systems engineering approach. In the age of smart manufacturing, where mass customisation also plays a significant role, time is of the essence. The scope for physical prototypes based product validation from design and engineering stand point would result in a highly condensed timeframe, which would enable products to get a market faster. Design, virtually validates the product performance and then manufacturing would be ideal work flow considering the data and simulation driven approach in the age of “smart manufacturing”.

Emission Control through In-Cylinder Sensing – DEP Interview to ‘The Machinist’ Magazine

September 11, 2019

Our Chief Innovation Officer, Karthik Shankaran, during his interview to “The Machinist” magazine, gives a whole new perspective for the In-Cylinder combustion sensor that performs multiple tasks and real-time engine management by providing feedback to the electronic control of the engine.

Here is the gist of the Interview:

Emissions from motor vehicles are a cause of concern for air quality and also adversely affect human health. Most important part of controlling emission is to have an effective way to measure emissions. If we can do emission prediction real-time cycle to cycle with almost no modifications required for engines, then we have something that can help us put together PEMS for RDE. In-cylinder sensor, which integrates with existing powertrain is an innovative, cost-effective option that technology companies are working on.

The in-cylinder combustion sensor can be used in real-time applications, functioning as a timing sensor, combustion sensor, performance sensor, emission sensor and pressure sensor, delivering accurate and reliable results on a cylinder-to-cylinder, and a cycle-by-cycle basis.

DEP’s IC Sensors for Vehicles – The Economic Times Auto.com

July 24, 2019

US-based engine design and development company Detroit Engineered Products (DEP) has launched its latest advanced IC sensor that can help improve the efficiency and reduce emission of internal combustion engines.

These IC sensors can be used in real-time for applications, functioning as a timing sensor, combustion sensor, performance sensor, emissions sensor and pressure sensor, delivering accurate and reliable results on a cylinder-to-cylinder, and a cycle-by-cycle basis, the company said in a release.

The company claimed that these sensors are most suitable for on-board engine diagnostics, can predict combustion, performance and engine out emissions, and are superior to pressure transducers. The advanced IC sensors can be retro fitted in existing electronically controlled gasoline and diesel engines, by adapting the fuel injector or spark plug or glow plug as the sensor, without the need to drill another hole in the cylinder head.

ROAD SAFETY WEEK 2019 @ DEP

February 5, 2019

30th Road Safety Week 2019 is celebrated in India from 04th February (Monday) to the 10th February (Sunday). Road safety week is celebrated with the great joy and enthusiasm at our Detroit Engineered Products office, Chennai. It is heartening that many of our employees came forward to project the importance of following road rules, commuting safely in road and depicted the organized way of doing travel in road.

bn

We pledged ourselves on the below safety norms:
Slow
Staying under limits, and slow down to 20mph around schools, homes and shops to protect others. Slowing right down for bends, brows and bad weather, and avoid overtaking.

bn1

Sober
Never drive after drinking any alcohol or drugs – not a drop, not a drag.
Secure
Making sure everyone in the vehicle is belted up on every journey, and kids smaller than 150cm are in a proper child restraint.

bn2

Silent
Never take or make calls, read or type when driving. Putting communication devices out of reach, and stay focused on the road.

bn3

Sharp
Stay focused on safe driving. Taking regular breaks and never drive if tired, stressed or on medication that affects driving.

bn4

Sustainable
Minimalize the amount of driving, or not drive at all. Getting about by walking, cycling or public transport as much as one can, for road safety, the environment and my health.

About Road Safety Week
Road safety week is a national event aimed at raising public awareness about traffic rules and ultimately to reduce casualties due to road accidents. Millions lose their life and millions get injured in road accidents globally; mainly, due to lack of awareness about traffic rules or a behavior of flouting them. Therefore, to make people more aware of the traffic rules and to persuade them to follow rules while on road; the Road Safety Week is observed annually.
